Home Energy Rating for Existing Homes

A Home Energy Rating provides an independent assessment of an existing home's energy efficiency and thermal performance through the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS).

An accredited assessor visits your property to collect information about its construction, insulation, windows, shading, heating and cooling systems, hot water, lighting and any existing solar or battery systems.

Using NatHERS-accredited software, this information is used to produce an official Home Energy Rating Certificate, which includes:

  • A Home Energy Rating (0–100+) reflecting the home's overall energy performance.
  • A Star Rating (0–10) indicating the thermal performance of the building.
  • Estimated annual energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Guidance on potential energy efficiency improvements.

The certificate helps homeowners understand their property's performance, identify opportunities to improve comfort and energy efficiency, and make informed decisions about future upgrades.

It may also support applications for eligible green finance products, subject to the lender's requirements.

Sustain Lane provides accredited Home Energy Rating assessments for existing homes in South Australia.

Residential Energy Efficiency Consulting

Every home is different, and so are the people who live in it.

Sustain Lane provides independent, personalised advice to help homeowners and renters improve comfort, reduce unnecessary energy use and create healthier living environments.

Unlike a standardised Home Energy Rating, our consulting service considers how you actually use your home, including your daily routines, comfort preferences, existing appliances and energy concerns.

We look at practical opportunities to improve heating and cooling, insulation, ventilation, shading and energy efficiency, while considering your priorities and budget.

Our aim is to help you understand your options, prioritise improvements and make confident decisions without unnecessary expense.

Commercial Energy Efficiency Consulting

Every business operates differently, and its premises should support the people and activities within them.

Sustain Lane provides independent energy efficiency advice for small businesses, commercial property owners and tenants seeking to improve comfort, reduce unnecessary energy consumption and manage operating costs.

Our approach considers the building, its equipment, operating hours and how the space is used. We examine practical opportunities involving heating, cooling, lighting, ventilation, insulation and energy management.

Recommendations are tailored to the property's characteristics, business needs and available budget, with consideration for workplace comfort and operational requirements.

Our goal is to help businesses make informed, practical decisions that support a more comfortable, efficient and sustainable working environment.

Energy Efficiency for Renovations and Improvements

Planning a renovation or making improvements to your property is an opportunity to create a more comfortable, healthier and energy-efficient space.

Sustain Lane provides independent advice to help homeowners and property owners consider energy efficiency before making decisions about building materials, insulation, windows, shading, heating, cooling and ventilation.

We look at how proposed changes may work together, taking into account the existing building, its orientation, local climate and the way the space will be used.

Whether you are planning a small upgrade or a larger renovation, we can help you explore practical options, identify priorities and avoid unnecessary or poorly coordinated improvements.

Our aim is to help you make informed choices that support long-term comfort, efficient energy use and better value from your investment.

Floor Plan Drawing

An accurate floor plan is a useful starting point for understanding, presenting or planning improvements to a property.

Sustain Lane provides on-site property measurements and digital floor plans for homeowners, real estate agents and property managers.

Whether you need a floor plan for a property listing, to document an existing layout or to help plan future improvements, we can provide a clear visual representation of the property's rooms and spaces.

We use Magicplan, a professional floor plan drawing application, to create clear and practical digital floor plans based on on-site measurements.

Our floor plans are prepared with attention to accuracy, clarity and the intended purpose.

Please note that these floor plans are intended for general information and preliminary planning purposes and are not architectural or construction drawings.
